The Tinta Negra grape variety is part of the ancient grape variety of Madeira Island, and is still the basis for the wines that made this island famous. Outside Madeira Island, it is a rare grape variety that is only found in regions where the sea is nearby, gaining another name such as Molar em Colares or Saborinho. “Villões” is the nickname that Porto-Santenses give to Madeirans, which comes from the name vila (city) which gained a double connotation.
